On July 23, 2025, Right4Children, in collaboration with the Health Division Pokhara, Gandaki Medical College, UHP Health Post, and other local partners, organized a comprehensive reproductive health and VIA screening camp at Brahma Rupa Secondary School in Gusti, Lantern Bazar, Pokhara-1. The event, aimed at underserved women from informal settlements, focused on identifying early signs of cervical cancer, promoting personal hygiene, and raising awareness about reproductive health issues.
A total of 102 women participated in the camp, where services included Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) tests, gynecological check-ups, counseling, and referrals. Key findings included 73 cases of white discharge, 7 cases of cervicitis, 2 chronic STIs (requiring partner treatment), 9 menopause-related issues, 2 pelvic organ prolapse cases needing ring pessary insertion, 3 cases of irregular periods, 1 cervical polyp case, and 5 women counseled on safe abortion and long-term family planning methods. Remarkably, no VIA-suspected or pregnancy-positive cases were found.
The event was inaugurated by Ward President Shara Pradhan, who emphasized the importance of health and praised the coordinated efforts of all partners. The camp not only provided essential health services but also revealed critical gaps in hygiene practices and reproductive health awareness among the women, many of whom had never undergone such screenings before. The initiative received strong support from the local community, including youth clubs, mothers’ groups, FCHVs, and community leaders. Doctors and health workers and Health Division Pokhara played a key role in diagnosing and recommending follow-up treatment for identified cases.

Participants expressed gratitude for the free and accessible services, and the success of the camp highlighted the need for regular, localized health interventions for marginalized communities. The event also strengthened the referral and follow-up systems between the community and government health institutions. Overall, the reproductive health camp demonstrated the power of collective effort in promoting women’s health, building awareness, and ensuring early detection and timely treatment of potentially serious conditions. Right4Children hope to continue similar initiatives in the future, fostering a healthier and more informed community through proactive outreach and collaboration.
