Child Friendly Local Governance  is a governance framework rooted in the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child—non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, holistic development, and meaningful participation. The Government of Nepal has set an ambitious goal: by 2087 BS, every local level in the country should be declared child friendly.

To support this vision, Right4Children, with the support of the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, organized a one-day workshop on August 18, 2025, at the Ward Hall in Pokhara-29. The session was facilitated by Nabin Subedi- MEAL Manager, Right4 Children and brought together 26 participants, including ward leaders, teachers, health workers, child clubs, and community representatives. Notably, half of the participants were women, ensuring inclusive engagement.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concepts and indicators of CFLG, share strategies and best practices, highlight the roles of teachers, communities, and local bodies, and inspire collaboration toward building a child-friendly Pokhara. Using participatory methods such as brainstorming, games, group work, Q&A, and presentations, participants explored the steps and indicators of CFLG, identified challenges, and discussed practical solutions.

By the end of the day, participants had significantly improved their knowledge, as shown in pre- and post-tests. Roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders became clearer, and group discussions generated valuable suggestions for moving forward. Collaboration among local actors was strengthened, and the ward authority made a key commitment to form a CFLG Committee to advance the process.

Ward 29 has a history of CFLG initiatives but has not yet been officially declared child friendly. This workshop reignited the momentum and renewed commitment among local stakeholders. With consistent follow-up and collaboration, Ward 29 is now firmly on track to soon be recognized as a Child-Friendly Ward. In the program, Ward Chairperson Mr. Shree Prasad Gurung, Ward Secretary Durga Neupane, Official of the Social Development Division of Pokhara Metropolitan City Arjun Neupane, Chief Executive Officer of Right4Children Anil Paudel, and the participants spoke about the need and importance of CFLG.

Together, we can build a society where every child survives, develops, is protected, and participates meaningfully.
