Health Camp at Pokhara Ward No. 15

With the support of Right4Children, the Pokhara-15 Ward Office and Urban Health Centre-15 organised a free gynaecological examination and medicine distribution camp in the Pokhara-15, Ward Office building on 24 September. A total of 204 girls and women aged between 21 and 73 benefited from the camp.

Ward Chairperson Toran Bahadur Baniyan emphasised that development will only be beneficial if the citizens are healthy. Baniyan also noted that some individuals at the camp have been diagnosed with serious illnesses. He encouraged everyone to visit such health camps with confidence for timely identification and diagnosis of any diseases. Chairperson Baniyan expressed gratitude to Right4Children for all the work and contributions to health, education, and children in Ward No. 15.Santosh Gurung, Right4Children’s PRAYASS Project Manager, emphasised the importance of these outreach camps, stating that they would be valuable for identifying and treating the disease promptly and preventing risks to women.

Forty-two-year-old Chitra Pariyar from Thanti Patan attended a health camp and was diagnosed with a uterine infection. She mentioned that the doctor prescribed medication after confirming the infection. She emphasised the importance of such health camps for individuals who cannot afford private hospital tests. Additionally, a woman from Amintara, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed concerns about a suspected case of cervical cancer.“Personal hygiene practices must be followed,” said Phulmaya Dura, a health worker from Right4Children who was involved in the camp. “In addition to check-ups, we also counselled the attendees about the importance of maintaining hygiene.” Apart from Phulmaya, there were five doctors and seven female community health volunteers who were directly involved in this health camp.The head of Urban Health Centre-15, Mira Basnet, said that most of the people who came for health check-ups at the camp today were found to be in normal health conditions. According to her, three people showed symptoms of complicated diseases. She mentioned that these patients were referred to the hospital, and free medicines were distributed to those with normal conditions.In the camp, cervical cancer, breast cancer, menstrual disorders, organ prolapse, vaginal discharge, back pain, itching and other diseases and conditions were tested.
