Child Rights Through Media and Art

Hero Image

This project is the outcome of baseline research conducted in 2013 by Right4Children to identify the degree of understanding and awareness about child rights at the community level.

The findings highlighted the need for greater education and promotion of child rights to protect children from violations such as child labor, sexual exploitation, physical abuse, inadequate access to education, trafficking, and early marriage.

R4C designed the Milijuli Bolaun child radio program to promote child rights, with a focus on the right to education and protection in the Kaski district to be replicated and expanded nationwide later. Milijuli Bolaun is a weekly radio program of half an hour in length, where children speak and raise various issues relating to them.

The first Milijuli Bolaun episode was aired through different radio stations in Pokhara and online (www.milijulibolaun.org ) on the 24th of October, 2014.

Child Rights Through Art

As the Milijuli Bolaun radio project, Child Rights Through Art is also the outcome of the baseline survey conducted by R4C. The project was developed to address the need for more awareness and education of child rights through outdoor murals, art workshops, and competitions at the school and community level in Nepal.

Child Rights through Art project supported by CWSHK and Sovereign Art Foundation -HK R4C works with community schools to enhance art skills and to promote creative and expressive abilities to children aged 10-18 years. The program encourages children to express their needs, problems, opinions, and experiences through visual arts. The children are oriented about child rights and are provided with the basic techniques of drawing /painting skills during the art workshop.

Apart from the art workshops, the project also organizes other art activities such as art exhibitions, production, and dissemination of child rights promotional materials to promote and protect child rights.

”It was my first experience taking part in an Online Art Competition. I was so excited to participate. I have participated in the art class many times in our school through the direct support of Right4Children. From art classes, I learned basic ideas of drawing and coloring techniques. It helped me a lot to enhance my art skills. I am very thankful to Right4children for providing the opportunity."
