Post COVID-Community Care Project

Hero Image

The ‘Post COVID Community Care’ project is a newly launched project for the needs of communities who are living in very poor and difficult circumstances in the slums of Pokhara Metropolitan City in the post-COVID context.

This project aims to enhance the livelihood of community people in slum areas in ward 15 and 17 of Pokhara Nepal, especially the most vulnerable population i.e., women and children. Our main goal is to reduce the impact of COVID-19 and contribute for the control and prevention of the virus having protection of the vulnerable group, mainly the children and young people at the centre of the project. This is to improve awareness level on COVID preventive health measures through campaign, motivation, training and educational sessions.

The project will reach out to more than 650 households from the two communities with an estimated population of 3,250 people (as the normal size of a family consists of 5 members on an average). Additionally, the project will support 325 children (3-15 age groups) and 300 young people (female adults) aged 15-25 years for their protection, education, development and better future prospects. Our ultimate target is to reach out to all the girls working in entertainment sector in Pokhara, estimated number of which is around 1200.

Improving basic infrastructures like construction of drinking water tank, water dip boring and Multipurpose Community Center. As water is a dire problem in both the communities and is vital for maintaining health and hygiene, construction of these water facilities will lead to solve these issues. Following “Food for Work” approach, local people of communities will be mobilized for construction of these basic infrastructures where food will be provided instead of monetary income. Multipurpose community center will be mainly used for child learning as many children were deprived of education due to COVID-19. Moreover, children from these communities will be assisted by tutors to further continue learning and 120 needy children will be provided scholarships. Also, 300 families living in extreme poverty and mostly affected by COVID-19 will be supported with food and other relief packages.
